Dear all, right now I am trying to get SVA testing implemented on this tiny island home of mine (malta), so far my vehicle authority has issued an SVA
manual (which is a copy of the uk one with minor changes), and are working on a testing premises.
I would like to ask:
What type of testing equipment is used by SVA test centers?
Is this equipment any different to what is used for MOT's (Other than the radius testing)?
All help appreciated I've been waiting for 2 years to register my machine because it only see's road during hillclimbs
Most of the SVA equipment is similar to MoT equipment, they obviously have the small sphere & the large hemi-shere & various other bits such
as spirit levels, plum bobs & special attachments for checking the seat belt height fixings etc.
I think the main differences are that the brake rollers also take axle weights to do the brake calculations & they also have the speedo
calibration test rollers. The emissions equipment is very similar if not the same as MoT equipment, the ramp is larger than a MoT ramp but does the
same job. HTH
spheres and radius guage; also that cut cone thing to detemine floor plan.
you'll need set of poles with markers for rear view mirror although I am sure a wall with paint blobs or similar could be used.
ther is the contraption that is used for determining the small screen is within height - maybe same as used for seat belt mounts?
also sound meter for exhaust noise.
some way to measure head lamp alignment.
I'm sure you can buy and SVA tester kit on ebay
I thought they had something to measure weight and braking forces?
Or am I just imagining that bit (sure I heard it from somewhere!)
So theoretically speaking you could do an SVA at an MOT station if you had the sphere and the cone tools?
You'll need the following test equipment:
4-gas analyzer (Bosch-Bear)
weight bridge
equipment to verify the settings of the lights. (LET)
bridge to verify the underneath of the car
brake tester with remote control (usually Maha)
sonometer
test equipment to verify the speedo
If it's a petrol engine you also need test equipment to test the emission (Dieseltune)
Thanks Guys, more negotiations and arguing coming up next week for me.
