High Tensile Bolts for seat belts
Dave Bailey - 25/10/07 at 05:11 PM

I have just ordered some high tensile bolts and nuts from Namrick for my seat belts but the nuts have just arrived and they have no markings on them. Is this normal? The bolt heads have thre lines on them 120 degrees apart which I think means grade S

7/16 UNF....

It is grade 5 and is same strength as 8.8

Very nice lookup table here: http://www.americanfastener.com/technical/grade_markings_steel.asp

Thanks.. so is 8.8 o.k. for seat belt mounts?

Don't know that answer, only know that grade 5 is the same as 8.8

But I guess that 8.8 is ok for suspension it would be sufficient for seatbelts. You could always go for grade 8 if unsure.

Does it matter on the thread pitch? Could you use 12mm course so long as it was 8.8 or higher? Or do you need fine thread?
