How Long did you wait?

Hi Guys

How long is it before the DVLA get in touch with you after you submit your V55?

I sent off all the paperwork to register the car about 2 weeks ago and I was wondering how long it would be before some one would get in touch with me to do the inspections and issue the reg documents.

I went down the local office and it was done next day, I know thats not a lot of help, but I guess the big central office will get loads so a few weeks is to be expected.

We've got to wait until after Christmas for our inspection..

Apparently the person who does them in our area is on paternity leave - what's involved anyway? And why can't it be done by the VOSA person at SVA??

You have a kid then take a holiday

I got mine done in 2 days as I had to wait for an inspection date. If you go and feed them all the paperwork in person I think it gets done much quicker.

do you think i should phone them and give them a gentle nudge?

I can be quite polite when i want to be

Yes. Definitely. 100%.

The people who do inspections are always on holiday / annual leave / sick leave..... Or rather the lazy feckless idiots who have to ask them to do the inspection are always making up excuses why they shouldn't get off their arses and do the job we pay them to do...

I'd certainly give them a gentle reminder. Most DVLA offices are useless and unless you continuously harass them they'll happily sit on their BFA all day doing diddly squat.

The person who did my inspection said he'd send in the report two days later. Two weeks later the DVLA office said they still hadn't received it and they had no way of contacting him until he came back in to work in "around"! 10 days time. I suggested surely he wasn't having another holiday (they'd done nothing for the first two weeks after I sent in the V55 as apparently he was on holiday then as well). They just said no, they had no way of contacting him. So I gave them his mobile phone number (which I had from when he rang to organize the inspection).... They ran out of excuses at that point....

I think the best thing to do is to ring them up, take them by the hand (metaphorically of course) and walk them through a car registration (discounting their numerous attempts to avoid doing their job by pale and rather unbelievable excuses) should do the trick

Either that or just put in an official complaint. My experience is they're lazy rather than obstructive and if they realise they'll end up doing more work filling out all the paperwork for an offical complaint than by doing the car registration they'll likely do the reg and ask you to withdraw the complaint (worked for me anyway)...

You seriously expect two different government departments to be prepared to work together?
Obviously the DVLA couldn't expect a VOSA employee to correctly and honestly check the VIN plate is correct.

I'm detecting some pent up anger here...
