Cut 'n' Shut Driveshaft's - SVA/MOT Pass?
smart1275gt - 20/3/08 at 02:16 PM

Not sure if this is true, but what's the best way of getting a pair of good strong cut 'n' shut driveshaft's made up and will they pass the test?

cheers.

PS. anyone local in Essex for the fabrication?

Would the strong way be to true up the 2 ends on a lathe and cut a chamfer. Put some sleeving tube on. Weld the vee and dress it back. Slide the sleeving tube over and weld that over the cut and shut bit then get them balanced.

Probs easier to get IMS, Bailey Morris etc tomake some new ones up.

GB Engineering will do a custom made pair foe ~£160 iirc.
Peace of mind is a wonderful thing too

I was under the impression that this was not allowed for the SVA but I would like to be wrong

Luego IRS Locost uses cut and shut shafts. Mine have been OK so far.May possibly get some new ones made at some point .And yes they are OK for SVA and MOT

Iirc, someone on here about a year back had a propshaft that let go but his car was road legal and i think he cut and shut it himself.
