Number plate size
Paul TigerB6 - 26/3/08 at 03:53 PM

Hi,

Couple of things,

Firstly, could someone please tell me the dimensions of the standard squarer type rear number plate please - the one with Q111 on the top line, and AAA underneath. Just fitting the rear lights so need to know to get the number plate light in the right place.

Secondly, any opinions on the legallity of fitting a smaller sized plate on the front - given the regulations set out on page 3 here as kitcars dont have EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval and it could be argued maybe that a standard sized plate could restrict cooling or risk damage on a se7en.

Cheers
Paul

what about stick on plate? just as legal as a reduced size character number plate but looks more like proper plate even though it is bendy.

and to answer your first question 7 x 9
much cheapness here

I think you mean "just as illegal as a reduced size plate"

To qualify for a small plate, the vehicle has to be three things: Imported, not ECWVTA approved, and not suitable for a standard plate. a kit doesn't qualify for the first.

However, there are so many stick-on and small plates around that it seems no-one cares.

I used a standard (legal ) square plate and positioned it high up on the rear panel. So, I just fitted the number plate light as high up as I could to miss the top rail, and when I registered it, I stuck the plate on just beneath it. I put my fog light in the centre at the bottom of the rear panel (had a different one for SVA)

my front plate is proper size numbers/letters spaced slightly tighter than normal and then i cut down the actual surround so it fitted across the nosecone, theres a pic in my archive

Should probably have explained myself better. I was thinking about the size of the front number plate myself - always thought the smaller ones look soooooo much better than the normal sized ones.

I've now fitted all of the rear lights including the fog (vertically) so thanks for the help guys.
