I know the seat belt bolts need to have 8.8 min stamp on them but what about OEM bolts?

Just got some out of a Ford Ka and wondering what Mr. SVA will say about them. They have some letters stamped on them but no numbers.

Numbers = metric bolts. Seat belts usually are higher than 8.8 (12.2 IIRC)

Letters = denote Imperial thread.

12.2 would be a very bizarre material! I think you mean 12.9 although seat belt bolts do not have to be that high spec, 8.8 is adequate. Since seatbelt bolts are imperial (7/16 I believe, which is about 11.1mm) they are unlikely to be marked 8.8 or 12.9. Do a google to find the equivalent imperial markings.

I did say 12.2 IIRC. not bad from memory I knew it was 12 something. From a point stress point of view I know the SVA manual say 8.8 or higher, but then WHY do most manufacturers fit 12.9. The reason - safety factor. Basic principal, if its good enough reason from the major manufacturers then its good enough for me, I would appreciate the extra safety margin if for no other reason than peace of mind.

Ive just bought a set of Sabelt Harnesses, adn the bolts on them say 8.8

does this means they are metric? what thread are the bosses in MNR Chassis? as i havent tried fitting them yet

Very unlikely to be metric, seatbelt bolts are pretty much a standard. 7/16" (UNF I think, but I'm not familiar with imperial threads)

Ok.. ive just tried them, and they fit fine... so whatever type of bolt you get with Sabelt Harnesses is the correct fitment for you MNR :-)

Imperial bolts are marked with a series of lines to denote strength. Grade 5 is supposed to be equiv of 8.8.

I have Securon seat belts fitted and they came with 7/16" UNF grade 5 bolts, the type with 3 equi-spaced lines on the head, and they were fine at SVA

My securon belts were only marked with an 'S' not the three lines :-(

They heads were like toffee.

So I've bought new bolts.

...And the head of the old bolt sheared off trying to remove it
