BEC Reverse
RJK350 - 21/4/08 at 08:52 PM

Hi I'm in the early stages of building an MK Indy with an Aprilia engine. I see the SVA requirements are changing on a reverse gear requirement. Can any please help on the best solution e.g. Quaife, electrical reverse etc. and if so is there some photos or look at.

Thanks Rob

I read that the IVA is not coming in till May 2009, thats a year to get it tested.

All the electronic ones I;ve heard about have been marginal, and the quaife whilst very good are pricey!

As said, the best solution is to get it finished and tested quicker

I've been looking into this and I've concluded that a mechanical reverse is less reliable, heavy and power sapping. These factors seem very much at odds with the BEC ethos.

In my opinion the best solution is to modify your engine controller (say a megasquirt) to divert the throttle position sensor output to a speed contoller (when reverse is engaged) to control an electronic reverse. As I happen to be married to an electronic engineer this is on my to-do list!

It'll be intersting to see the criteria for the reverse test.

Watching some electric reverse's go back over a 40mm block can be entertaining !

The AB Performance one is supposed to be good though.

I have gone for the eletric option. I do not plan on using it alot, only for swinging into a pub carpark space really.

Chris (zxrlocost) is installing the AB kit into my MK. I will let you know how I get on with it
