What is the legal standing for having your car moT'd ie is it a year after SVA ? is it 3 years. My local tax office told me they would not need to see a test certificate for 3 years from date of registartion is this true. Car is on an age related plate not a Q
Your car won't need an MOT until 3 years after the SVA test.
If you'd had a pre-SVA MOT test, it would be "on the system" and need one every year after.
But as it stands, it's treated as a new car re the MOT.
cheers for thast I opted not to have a pre MOT

I had a pre SVA MOT and no hassle after having the MOT redone 3 years later, as said as no reg for the first MOT it is a bit hard to track.

Surely if you had a Pre-SVA MOT your car wouldnt have had a Registration, so they couldnt put you in the system?
Having a pre-SVA MOT means you may be on the system but you may well still be able to put forward a case for not doing an MOT.
I did a pre-SVA MOT for emissions, headlight aim etc and still "persuaded" my local DVLA office to give me a tax disc- namely by getting a
letter from DVLA Swansea saying that I definately didn't need an MOT until 3 years were up.... To be honest though the pre-SVA MOT was a fail
(little in the way of braking or hand-braking) so I'm not sure whether that meant I didn't end up "on the system"...
i had an mot before sva on the chassis number, passed, and i taxed my car on saturday with no mot 2 and a bit years later.
tom
Alright, alright ! I'm talking out of my arse
I've definitely heard of a pre-SVA MOT "muddying the MOT waters" though
I've no persoanl experience though, we took ours for an MOT "equivalent" test
