well just had my SVA and failed,
1. emissions
2. sharp edges on exhaust and susspension rose joint lock nut
3. no centre mirror
4. fuel filler cap not restricted, it will still allow the old 4 star filler nozzel to pass inside it (haddent heard of this one before)
5. and the headlamps were for lefthand drive cars, not marked for use in uk only in america and europe
thats everything, everything else was ok, phew !!
nothing major there, i dont think, just need to get the emissions sorted
cheers
oh dear, some school boy errors there, but nevermind when you take it back yuo'll have the right car for the cash
Re: the nut, this bar prevents the examiner going any further

whats the best way to get rid of the sharp edges on the exhaust without melting what ever you put on it?

What's all that about then?
My filler is just a screw on cap over a 2.5" dia. filler neck. No lock, no nozzle restrictor etc. and that wasn't an issue for me at SVA
I just used a washer firmly wedged in the filler neck. I think it is about 22mm IIRC that is has to be.
Just wrap the exhaust in heat wrap, mine was fine for SVA.
Oh and on the nuts, I bought some large plastic nut covers, i think from SVC IIRC, cut off the ends and fed them over the nut. Looked excellent and
did the job for SVA.

getting the engine mapped on friday as it is running very rich and then i m offshore for 2 weeks then reset on the 22/8/08, plenty of time to get
sorted
i hope,
is heat wrap not very expensive ?
cheers
Not too bad finlay, shouldn't be too bad to sort fairly quickly.
Are you using the MNR loan SVA equipment? as everything in the front suspension area will be exempt if so due to the front indicators acting as
bumpers. mirrors would have been correct also.
Fuel filler restrictors are available from think automotive approx £13 delivered, (if you are using MNR supplied filler cap).

yea, i used MNR loan kit, indicators and bumpers, so i was expecting the front susspenssion to be like you said excempt
i will get one of the fuel filler restrictors
cheers
Not to bad Finlay. How did you find aberdeen sva?? How long is the current waiting list and did you let the dvla (aberdeen ) know your sva date as they get the examiner to do their inspection for them at the same time.
yea the Aberdeen guy, Doug, was really sound and he also did the DVLA inspection aswell
the first drive over was a bit hairy though

i could have got a resit on friday 1/8/8 but i m getting the mapping done then
i dont think its that bad a wait to get a test done

Hard luck. Should be an easy fix (3,4,5 are self inflicted I'm affraid).
All the best cars fail first time. ;-)

A bit concerned about my headlights after reading this post. I bought mine as a deal through the Locost Club some years ago. The markings on the glass are A, E11, 7603, LEFT, USA, and Wagner (presumably the maker) Does this look like mine are no good for SVA as well?

All post 95 engines have to run unleaded fuel for the cats so a restrictor is required to stop the old 4 star nozzles fitting into the neck, old school pintos are ok on full fat 4 star so no restrictor req
Yes, Mr Coozer, that is one way of doing it but SOME may think it a bit ugly (like me!!!). Think I will personally stick with tradition on my car but everyone to their own at the end of the day.

well done finlay...sounds like you should be on the road pretty soon.
doug is the same guy i had , he's very fair.
did you drive the car to the sva then?
yea drove the car there and back
going there was a nightmare, i went over the back roads, there was really think fog and couldnt see worth a dam, i kept on stalling at junctions with
a que of trafic behind me

the way back was ace because i got used to the clutch by then, had a nice drive home, its pretty quick
