edspurrier - 30/8/08 at 03:41 PM

SVA on Thursday, could I please ask for the collective opinion on how she looks? Not covered the top suspension nut but I have radiused it!

red crosses are too sharp

edspurrier - 30/8/08 at 03:45 PM

Pics work now! thanks

RichardK - 30/8/08 at 03:51 PM

Wow that is one nice motor, can't see anything wrong with it that would concern me, maybe if really picky but could be the picture would be to stick some edging around the boot lid as the corners look sharpish.

Hope mine turns out half as good as that.

Regards

Rich

Very smart! I like the colour scheme, and it looks very neat and tidy. All helps to put the tester into a warm and friendly state.

Only thing that leapt out for me was the edge of the chequer-plate that you've used for the boot lid. Maybe some edging would sort it?

edspurrier - 30/8/08 at 03:54 PM

Good spot. Boot's not actually locked down there so looks sharper than it is though

Paul TigerB6 - 30/8/08 at 03:54 PM

Looking good there. I think you will need to cover the lock nut on the top wishbone balljoint though unless that area is going to be exluded from radiused edges by the superlong indicator extensions. You may be better off removing the screen for SVA mind - saves a load of potential fail areas and the nuts holding the frame together will possibly fail by the looks of them

Oh - the poppers for the hood will fail too unless covered. Thats another reason to go screen-less

Looks really tidy!!! Congrats

Worth double checking the height and width of your front indicators....my tester failed me because one of them had dropped 1cm below the minimum height

David Jenkins - 30/8/08 at 03:56 PM

Actually, I was thinking about the whole boot space cover - there's a bit just next to the driver's right shoulder that looks a bit 'sticky-outy'. You might like to take a close look all round the edge - in the photo it looks a bit sharp.

rear red reflectors ?? , just in case cover wishbone nuts with plastic pipe cut down its length and cable tied on (£2 b&q)

paulmw - 30/8/08 at 05:04 PM

Looks pretty good

I wouldnt bother with the U-trim and the nut covers on the exhaust. They last about 30 seconds when it gets hot and start to smell.

Paul

edspurrier - 30/8/08 at 05:11 PM

Thanks all. The indicators did droop down - so I bent them up, hence the V shape to the extensions! Boot cover is blunted and has clear sealant all the way round so should I hope be OK. THe lights claim to have refelctors built in, but I've got some adhesive jobs in the toolkit just in case!

Thanks
Ed

reverse light? reflectors?

myke pocock - 30/8/08 at 05:46 PM

Do you have any form of demist for the screen? Cant quite see anything in the photos. Another reason, maybe, to remove it for the test?

mistergrumpy - 30/8/08 at 07:15 PM

Yep. Demister and reverse light seem missing. Other than that though, really nice.
Just thought, why not get some blank poppers for the press studs on the window.

fesycresy - 30/8/08 at 07:17 PM

Just checking you have put load spreading washers under the seat bolts ?

Also, put some spiral wrap around your braided brake hoses. They were failing on that.

Good luck.

caber - 30/8/08 at 07:52 PM

No need for reverse light just rear fog. Have you got anti slip on the accelerator pedal? In Glasgow my inspector insisted all rear lights were vertical, not what it says but a point of interpretation. I would also be a bit concerned about the edges of the pattern on the treadplate. Again point of interpretation but they can be very picky I was failed on a short piece of angle extrusion at the back wheelarches that the inspector measured with a radius guage!

Looks very nice build best od luck with SVA

chris_smith - 30/8/08 at 08:24 PM

didnt see anyone mention anti slip on accel pedal, otherwise as everyone else says an btw superb looking car well done

shades - 30/8/08 at 08:47 PM

Looks good :-)

Mine failed on headlights touching the wings and body on full lock.

Also the fog light was not illuminated when on. The inspector made me take my exhaust wrap off so he could see the shart edges. He was looking for them on the outside edge only i.e. where you could touch with a shin. Inside was fine.

Dont need a reverese light and no need for spiral wrap on the brake hoses, although I had nut covers split with holes in them on each end to cover the nuts.

edspurrier - 31/8/08 at 10:05 AM

Thanks. Will put some anti slip on throttle pedal. MIght get some bigger washers for the seat bolts but there are repair washers there now.

Windscreen is heated.

richardh - 1/9/08 at 06:56 AM

the leading edge of the exhaust doesn't look to be radiused................. worth a check

scutter - 1/9/08 at 08:26 AM

That looks great, being ubber picky, i'd stick a nut cover on the front brake caliper banjo bolts.

Should go like the clappers once passed

ATB Dan.

edspurrier - 2/9/08 at 02:38 PM

thanks. I've covered everything so fingers crossed....

iank - 2/9/08 at 02:51 PM

Don't think you need anti-slip on accelerator, just brake pedal. Just checked the pdf draft manual and can only find brake pedal mentioned.

Classic mini had just the postage stamp bit of smooth metal for accelerator.

edspurrier - 4/9/08 at 05:44 PM

Passed! needed to fit the stick on reflectors, otherwise all good.

Thanks fo the tips

Mark G - 4/9/08 at 10:10 PM

congrats

Nice one, well done.
