Are plastic fuel tanks ok for SVA, is there a particular standard or plastic they should be made of?

Yes their ok

No special plastics but should be considered fit for purpose

So an ASDA shopping bag won't pass

kind of amazing that you can make your own tank

Yes they're ok but when IVA comes in then plastic tanks will have to be certified. So it depends when your going to be finished.
