I need to hire a trailer and therefore need an extra re plate. I know people who make plates need to see some proof of the vehicle identity, but I
haven't had the registration document through yet.
I've got lots of other stuff, the car itself, the tax disc, insurance etc. Does anyone know if that will be enough? I know I could ring Halfords
but they aren't open yet and it's difficult to get them on the phone even when they are
TIA
John
do you have any DVLA issued documents you could use. tax reminder etc. green slip from the v5 from the sale of vehicle, these may suffice in fact the
green slip defo does.
otherwise can you not take the plate off the car and put it onto the trailer for the trip?
not sure if it s come in just yet as its due but the document laws didnt used to apply in bonnie scotland. Know anyon who could source and deliver
one.
just find your local place that sells "show plates"
no docs needed few questions asked
Can't you make a cardboard number plate? You've got a valid excuse for not having a proper one if you should be unlucky enough to get
pulled.

Most trailer hire sites can get extra bucks from you with the offer of an extortionately priced no plate
If you've got enough time buy one on the tinterweb.
Loads of plates on EGay and last time I bought a set they were in my hand less than 24hrs later.
I used this chap....
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/wicked_custom_plates
He can do MOT plates, plain plates, fancy plates... Anything you want. I went for plain and simple and I think it was £8 for the pair delivered.
Thanks for the ideas, chaps.
I've just beeen into Halfords with the tax disc, the existing registration plate and the insurance document but he needed the number from the V5,
which of course I haven't got, this being sent to Swansea.
I was hoping to get this sorted so as to be able to do the trailering on Tuesday. I think I'll try McLannahan's Ebay guy, but it may be I
will have to put off the trip til Wednesday
as the plate won't arrive, at best, til too late on Tuesday
John
I'd make up a card one. If it's a "show" plate it probably won't fully conform to the regulations anyway so if you get stopped and they're going to get pissy about the letter of the law they might do you anyway. You can always claim you had a magnetic one but it fell off after going over a pot-hole (likely considering the shite condition our glorious roads are in)....
wot ben says.
I found a few number plates fallen off cars on the roads & usually collecct them, I used one, yellow, back to front with reg written on fixed the
taitler board on my sankey when I towed it home.
All sorted now, thanks to everybody who responded.
Had another look throught the paperwork, and found the bit from the V5! I was under the impression that we had sent it off (wife weemed to think she
had posted something to Swansea). Of course, when we found it, there it was written on it do not send this part to DVLA!. So we didn't, (but
thought we had!)
Anyway, back to Halfords and now I've got the registration plate fr the trailer, and will appear to be all legal and pukka, and will expect the
BIB to leave me alone
Thanks again
John
My trailer had a white one on it for about 18 months because I couldn;t be bothered to get a yelow one made never got stopped.
What about towing with out a plate and claiming it fell off!
Just a thought.
LEGALLY, how would you get a plate made for your trailer/caravan if you hired a vehicle to pull it ?
