Confusing road sign
BenB - 2/12/22 at 05:31 PM

I was on a bike ride today and saw this sign. What does it mean?

that only coaches can turn left at the upcoming junction or that coaches are obliged to turn left at the junction and cannot go straight on.

Just a guide isnt it? not a circular instruction.

Good point!

What was the turn into?

It is a strange one. I read it as only coaches can turn left.

This would mean it's a no entry for everything else. A bit like the start of a bus route. If this is the case the junction is should be covered in circular (order) sign posts of no entry.

I read coached MUST turn left, (I expect that the other routes are to small /narrow for a coach) but all other traffic can turn left or any other way it chooses

To me it's coaches should only take the left turn (probably due to tight bends ahead). It's definitely stupid.

It say's to me that if you get on a bus you will get no where in life as they can only turn left.

I once crashed a car (non-fault) and it could only turn left and only drive in 2nd gear because the engine and box had been rammed backward into the steering.

It took careful planning to work my way round my village doing only left turns to get back to my house, much like a maze. It was quite fun until the whiplash injuries started to cause significant pain.

would do if I was a tweeter!!!

I think I agree it means coaches should turn left. It's on the Outer Circle on Regents Park and quite a few entrances / exits to the Outer Circle have wraught iron gateways which are quite narrow. Then there's a Macclesfield bridge which wouldn't take a coach- it's known locally as "blown up bridge" after a couple of canal boats carrying gunpowder going under the bridge blew up (a while ago!!!). They rebuilt it very quickly but it's not quite the same as it used to be. Realistically if a coach didn't turn left it would likely end up going round the Outer Circle until it was back at the same turning!!!! There's an entrance to the Outer Circle near Baker Street but I don't think there's an exit there.
