Brake Fluid Level Test
the_big_1 - 16/3/21 at 02:31 PM

Hi All,

I know a lot for the brake fluid lamp test, they join the lamp the handbrake etc so it illuminates when the hand brake is applied.
I have the fluid level lamp on my LCD display, what do you guys think of the illuminates for 2 seconds at key on, then goes off. Would that suffice? or its on until the engine starts? Obviously on and flashing if the level was low.

I thought the light coming on with the handbrake was a good enough test of the lamp

edit: re reading your post you don't seem to want to do it like that, so yes, illuminate for a second to test the light should be ok

Hi ya,

Was just so it doesn't always come on when hand brake is applied, just at first start up or if there is an issue

It would pay to check the IVA manual but IIRC it is supposed to warn you that your hand brake is applied as well as checking the brake fluid level warning light

hi ya,

there is two lamps, hand brake lamp and low fluid level lamp.
The hand brake one would work as normal. The low fluid is not for low fluid and hand brake.
The IVA says that the low fluid lamp most have "Where a warning lamp is provided as the only means of checking
the fluid level without opening the reservoir, it must be secure,
operational, visible during daylight and darkness from the driving
position, and fitted with a “test facility” that enables its operation to
be checked from the driving position without opening the
reservoir."

Some use the hand brake to create a test facility. I am thinking of an automated test facility. At first key on all of the lamps illuminate for 3 seconds then off. If hand brake is applied while engine not running, it will be on. When the car starts, it goes off unless the fluid is low.

I fitteed a push button start, so I used the key start position as a test switch for the fluid. Passed IVA no problem

Hi ya,

Yeah mine will be a bushbutton start too. And the start won't work until the 3 second lamp tests has happened.
