V5 is the UK registraion certificate for a vehicle, sometime referred to as the "log book".

It details the car, registration no., chasis number, colour, engine size, fuel etc. Also details the registered keeper (not necissarily the legal owner) of the vehicle.

I'm not sure there is.

If you purchased the vehicle, then receipt from the seller would be a start. Other than that I'm really not sure how you'd prove legal ownership of the vehicle.

If the V5 is lostor stolen then you'd have to re-apply to the DVLA for a registration document. That would make you the registered keeper, but not necissarily the legal owner.
