Bloody camera got me again...

Driving my little one back from my parents on a road that I've not done in a while. Through the 40 zone (it always was 40 and I'd SWEAR that the sign said 40) and I've today got the FPN for 36 in a 30 zone.

No way of proving the sign (although I'm tempted to send my father up there to take a picture).

Am I buggered? - This is just wrong, wrong, wrong and worst the second time in a year that I've been got by longstanding 40mph cameras becoming 30 ...

I should pay more attention I know but frankly there are so many cameras now that I'm surprised that any of us look at the road anymore

p.s. Wasn't in the toy - boring tintop.

how far apart were the lamp posts, can't remember what the exact measurement is but apparently if the lamp posts are closer than 300 ft apart is a 30mph speed limit,

thats was from my driving instructor, no bull sh*t

No he said he thought he was in a 40 and he was caught at 36, so why would he have been doing 46? Also he was in his tintop so why the helmet? lol.

Why would he be wearing a helmet??

Distance beteen lamp posts is irrelavent. Lamp posts signify a 30 MPH zone unless other wise stated by signs.

this is an old wives tale or at least isnt true on todays roads, i did the very same last year and had the option of paying for a "speed awareness course", which i duly took saving three points, its more a case of not being aware of signs anymore, and thinking you know what the limit is on any given road, especially closer to home as you drive those roads more than any other and usually daily, a speed limit will be signed when it changes, for example 50 down to 30 or vice versa, when entering or exiting urban and rural roads, or when coming from a main road 30, onto a housing estate which could be 20, the signs will be there at the junction, the instructor who took us for a drive showed me so much that on a daily bases is so easily missed, next time you drive to the local shops or to work just count every road sign you see and make a consious effort to notice them all "you will surprise yourself i promise,

not having a rant or a go but i think most of us can become complacent me included.

it can be food for thought how many warning signs you see on your short routes, and all signs are there for a given reason. for instance when the road has SLOW painted on it , it is only there because there have been X number of accidents in the last few years, it isnt there just to use up council cash when april approaches

cheers

Were the 30 signs clean, clear, unobstructed and well lit.

They've offered me a speed awareness course but that could be in Taunton so I'll have the £60 gone and the time and the round trip from the Midlands.

I'm resigned to it and will do it and if the course helps me to override the habit of thinking I know a road then maybe that will help. Frankly I think I'm just going to have to drive all the time with the Road Angel on now.

It just feels sooooo unfair - The speed limit in question is in place due to problems in rush hour - I was going through on a Sunday afternoon and wasn't in a rush...

EDIT: P.s. It was broad daylight, the sign is well placed but the camera is hidden behind it - I've known it's there for 22 years!

Down the road from where i live is a speed camera that was sneakily hidden behind a big direction road sign, now i believe that it was moved due to a unhappy motorist who went to court over the issue that the camera was obstructed by the huge road sign. and it has been moved a few more yards away from the sign!

You have two options...

contest the claim in court and:

receive the £60 fine for speeding

OR

Receive a fine for Driving With Undue Care and Attention.

Road signs constantly change... there is no law against it. Driver complacency is no defence!

thought that having little ones in the car would be even more reason to drive carefully....not having a go but the sign is almost 99.999999999999999% being right and that you just didnt notice.

Guilty as charged.....speeding is speeding just accept it as that im affraid.

PS. before you all start on me, just imagine the outcry if a child had been knocked down by someone who was speeding and then claimed didnt know what the limit was....we would all jump on the drive slower band wagon......

enough said....just my opinion

Also don't forget as you took the course not the points it doesn't need to be declared to your insurer as it's not a conviction, money saved for 3 years.
