Speed Cameras without film
hi all. can anyone comfirm that it is possible for a speed camera to flash even when there is no film in the camera? a friend was driving my car the
other day and got flashed.... the cars already been re registered, but i was just curious as to whether a ticket was guarenteed. Comments based on
personal experience welcome, urban myths, hearsay and wild guesses are also welcome, but please let me know which it is!!!
thanks in advance, Joel.

I got flashed once, but never heard anything afterwards, so perhaps they do. Also my friend got flashed at one of those traffic light cameras. He rang
up and established that they did have him on camera, but had decided not to proceed. They didn't say why.

yes
they will flash regardless of film or not, as they are programmed to flash either way. and there are loads of ways out of these types of tickets
anyway!!!!
but if you hear nowt after 60 days, then there was no film, or the speed you were doing was borderline speeding!!!!
FACT!!!

They have to inform you of intention to prosecute the offence within 14 days and usualy state the offence and ask you as the registered keeper who the
driver was at the time. If If you don't hear after 16-17 days breathe easy.

I don't know about your are but down somerset way there are generally not enough camera units to fill the boxes, so they move them around.
they sometimes fit a 'false' camera which only has a flash.

I've been flashed several times (ooerr) and never had a ticket through. Likewise to protofj, I've heard they don't have enough
camera's to go round. My girlfriend has been through several flashes on the a303 purposely at speed 'they never have a camera in or any
film' she tells me as we drive straight through a camera at 90mph

Ned, Which camera is that on the 303?
Is it the one where the road changes from 1 lane to 2 at regular intervals in both directions...I've been flashed at that one with no ticket.

depends where you are
all cams in northants work.
the 14 days thing isnt hard and fast.
It only counts for serving the document to the first in the chain. For example, if you have a company car, it might take a month to find out. Thats
cos serving the notice to the lease co counts.
thats shyte, the idea of the 14 days is so that you can remember the event and form a case. Its the same reason a cop will inform you that you may be
prosecute when he hands you a ticket - its your chance to gather facts while fresh. The fact that the lease co takes days to send it to your employer,
then he takes days to give it to you, doesnt count in law.
if its served to reg keeper in 14 days, thats all thats needed

ps
when I got interviewed for 90mins by two cops at my company over my refusal to provide info, they asked if the ar in the pic was mine. Thats part of
the hook - i should have taken the silly sounding 'its a ringer' approach, but didnt. My advice is that if you get interviewed prior to
any prosecution, just keep giving the same 'dunno if it was me' answer. All their questions are intended to fence you in. Its better to
say nothing (against the caution!) cos all else is intended to be a set of questions to stop you manovering in court.

Hi All
A couple of years ago, returning from an enjoyable Exeter Kitcar show, I was on the 303 near Chicklade, daydreaming (as one does) revelling in the
smooth running of my Orion Ghia Inj at over the ton, when Flash Flash - THAT woke me up. Should have known better, been down that road & back
hundreds of times in the last 10 years in my job, and one of the most prominent cameras too. S**t myself for a few weeks, never heard anything, BUT
spoilt the show for me.....

Up hear in the distant north (real north not Newcastle) We to have speed cameras ! Yes, Shock horror technology has reached the outerlimits! .
Anyway we're in the same boat - so many cameras locations, so many camera units. BUt warning ALL cameras flash twice with or without film.
Scot's do it better in Kilts.
