Older Kitcar registered as the donor
My friend at work is looking at a Jeep kitcar (not exactly the correct time of the year, but hey!). Its a old RV Eagle Jeep which had a Ford Cortina
as the donor. When a vehicle check for it (reg WKL 785S) it comes back as the Ford Cortina. I understand that older kits that never went through the
SVA so does this mean they never had proper paperwork. Or is it going to be a load of hassle?

As said, IVA.
There was an amnesty many years ago where you could put a case together with proof that the car had been used on the road (iirc, you needed a few tax
discs and mot certificates) and DVLA would change the title on the V5, but that has long gone NOW.
I scrapped a kit because the V5 titled it as a Riley Kestrel, which had been the donor. I tried for over a year to get it changed but the DVLA just
cancelled the V5!

A LOAD of hassle - I once had a kit car in the garage that was a Ford Escort....... allegedly it is possible (or at least was) to get the V5 changed
and there was a guy who advertised in the kit car magazines who claimed to be able to do it. After investigating it though I found you had to have
very specific bits of paper with very specific dates on them (relating to someone having informed the DVLA of a change of use mostly) and if you
don't have them you don't stand a chance.
Walk away very fast indeed unless you/he doesn't mind putting it through IVA. I managed to sell the car to someone thankfully - and yes he did
know the issues when he bought it!

Have a look on the Covin forum a bloke who bought a covin which was still registered as a vw he was told after providing the paper work and get it MOT
and a visit from an inspector.
I noticed the bloke works for DSA not sure if that helps?
Think about it, think about it again and then do it.

During one of my many meetings with Stockton DVLA over my kit cars being cloned, the helpful lady (there is only one) told me that they had trialled a
system where during the MOT test, an image of the vehicle being tested would pop up on the MOT guys 'puter for him to verify the vehicle he was
testing was the right sort. They planned to contact owners clubs and 'special vehicle' manufacturers to get the images. The images were to
be generic so colours and trim wouldn't matter, but the shape had to be right.
However, due to the massive balls-up with various computer systems and the massive costs to put them right, the idea got moth-balled. For now...

My own experience - after the amnesty mentioned above was that if you could get the DVLA to search their records and prove well enough that they
really did know about the donor now being a kit car, they were prepared to change the V5 accordingly.
When buying a car though, you really have to consider whether it's worth your while taking a punt on a car that may ultimately prove impossible
to legally keep on the road.
In my case, it was. That's because the car was a viable track only car.
The Jago may or may not be suitable.
So, you may get a correct V5.
I did.
You may not.

I legally built and registered a JC Midge that was described by DVLA as a Triumph Vitesse SPORTS (Their addition) I changed it to a JC Midge in 2006
with no mention of SVA or without having to prove its provenance. They would know if it had been MOT'd and taxed from records. The rules may
well have changed by now but my experience was through Carlisle and if you have read my other posts about DVLA Carlisle you will know my ****ing
opinion of them.
