CBS all-in-one rear light??? EDIT -they ARE COMPLIANT - see my post on 2nd page.

Just got CBS newsletter, and I see they're offering a 'cheap' all in one rear light which is claimed to be 'IVA OK'. Thought these guys knew what they are doing? As I recall, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, there has to be a minimum separation between stop lights and foglights of 100mm for IVA?

CBS rear lights

One of the fail points on my IVA was down to buying an 'SVA OK' set from them (advertised and bought 12 months after IVA replaced SVA) - the foglight had the wrong lens on it - (it was a standard rear light which was ok for SVA, but IVA tightened up the regs, and it failed.)

The moral here is - don't automatically believe what the suppliers say is legal to be correct - check for yourself.

Might be worth feeding it back to them - at least it'd stop others having the same problem you did.

I've always found CBS expensive but efficient and helpful. lets hope its just an oversight.

Am I reading the information right? £300 notes and then you pay extra for the insert to go in the middle?

Honest opinion, ugly as sin

Outrageously expensive, and a bit too gaudy for most 7's.

Assuming the outer row of LED's at one end are the brake light and the other end is the fog, then they could be 100mm apart. No clue to size/scale in the photo.

You are quite right, Norfolkluegojnr, so I have just sent them this email:

Hi,

just got your newsletter.

Would like to point out that the all-in-one rear LED lights:

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/LED_Rectangular_Rear_Light_Stop%7CTail%7CIndicator%7CRear_Fog%7CReverse_Pair_RL81

are almost certainly not IVA OK as stated – there has to be a minimum separation of 100mm between stop and fog lights.

Now, you may think I am being a smartarse, but if you look in your files you will see that I bought a complete set of the NAS lights which you (at the time) stated were ‘SVA OK’. This was over a year after the introduction of the IVA test. I duly fitted them, and failed my IVA in dec ‘10 because the foglight wasn’t IVA compliant.

Just trying to save some other poor sod from the same fate.....

Best regards, Steve Gough (Blackpool).

I'll keep you informed of their response.

It is possible, that Adrian (Adithorp) is correct and they are compliant, but I doubt it.

It says the 6mm mounting holes are 100mm apart so looking at the rear of the unit, its possible that the fog and brake are over 100mm apart as suggested above. Even though, you can build a complete car for less than the price of one rear light!

always read the manual!

"Note 2: Rear Fog Lamp to Rear Brake Lamp separation distance must be measured between the “illuminating surface” of each lamp. “Illuminating Surface” should be taken to be the area of the “reflector” to the rear of the bulbs.
Where lamps are mounted in a common housing and are “E” marked, the separation criteria should be assumed to be met."

this unit is e-marked, so seperation is assumed met.
how many production cars do you see where the fog light is within the same housing as the brake/tail? just about all of them now, except some jap cars

anyways, if anyone was planning on spending so much on some lorry trailer lights for a tiny car, well, not sure CBS can be blamed for taste

It used to say in the SVA that if the lamps were part of same unit then the regulation was not applicable.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I was wrong - they are compliant......

Just got to take my hat off to Adithorp, Orwelly and Blake.....had a very quick reply from Mark at CBS.....

Hi Steve, Thanks for your email. Sorry for the problems that you had with the Fog light. Unfortunatley when the test changed from SVA to IVA the rules were tightened. Before you only needed a light that was or equal intensity to a E marked Fog light and now IVE rules insist on a F marked Fog.

As for the new lamps they are IVA compliant as they have both the F mark and 100mm between the
tail lamp and the fog.

Thanks again for mailing, it is nice to know some people take the time to read what I write

Matt

No, but you have a point - I can't understand why these flippin' LED lights are so expensive?

Well researched, i had a discusion with a company called bolt on bits (mainly lighting for landrovers) who say they do a lot of kit car peoples clusters and switches but i mentiond neither their nice led or std buld fog and reverse were iva acceptible which je seemd shocked by as he seemd to know a lot about his stock. Also the expence issue is a joke as if it werent for E and F Marking i could nock something like that up for around £40 tops altho LEDd are very clear and bright.
