vin and registration procedure

Ok may be some dumb questions to sum but im working stuff out and noting things down also going to get ink for the printer so that i can print myself a copy of iva info off. But at the moment builds underway and was wundering a friend said i can make up a 17letter and number vin and find out if avalible and then use it obviusly no I or O as they cant be used but was wondering how you go about it and at what point in the build also registering is that just before iva? ? As moving the car soon closer to me and out of my friends way and needing it insured which id also like advice please help......

I made mine up but that was years ago and I wouldnt make it up again as you dont know what the future is going to bring up.

For example I'm now moving overseas and taking my car with me and to get the car registered is causing me problems as the vin doesnt comply with an international standard.

Just contact the DVLA and ask them for one.

A recent post gave advice on this subject. If you send a polite request to the DVLA they should issue a suitable VIN No.
