quieten my exhaust?
car almost ready for iva but i am a little concerned over my exhaust.
i think it may be too loud
i am looking to make it a bit quieter temporarily for the test. i am sure i have read you can put stuff in the exhaust(wire wool i think it was) but
cant find the link. sure there is more to it than that
eventually i would like a new exhaust but for now that is out of the question. too dear
all advice appreciated
thanks

Do you not already have a silencer?
I recommend accustafil. cheap and a very good silencer material. easy to handle to.
what makes you think its loud? it will be compared to normal cars and ib a smallish garage. just a thought.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Search Ebay for 'can baffle' then get one for £10 and shove up the exhaust.

Wire wool and pan scourers work but need wedging in or will blow out.
A Decibel insert from CBS, Demon Tweeks or Rally Design work well, I used one for my SVA.
They go between the 4 branch collector and the silencer joining pipe.

Decibel insert
I tried one of those but wasn't impressed with the outcome - it took all the bass frequencies away leaving the car sounding like a
dentist's drill. Yes, it may have been quieter but it was much more intrusive.
For my IVA a couple of years ago I stuck wire wool in upstream of the silencer, however the tester said it was very quiet making me think it would
probably have passed without it.

You could try repacking it (if you've got a re-packable one) wit acoustafil. The
stuff that comes with the exhaust isn't that good and it's usually blown out after a year or so.
Acoustafil is pretty cheap from ebay.

hello all
thanks for the replies.
few suggestions to choose from.
i do indeed have a silencer. i believe it is from an old robin hood 2b so dont think it maybe upto todays noise levels hence the reason to quieten it
down for iva test.
i dont mind losing a little bhp since it will be removed after iva anyway and when i have spare cash, i will be purchasing new exhaust.
the exhaust isnt a repackable one so not really an option
db insert seems ok
wire wool insert. how exactly do you perform this method? seems locost for me and that was the idea i had read previously but unable to find now
thanks again
