R1 engine number and age
I need to establish the age of my R1 for filling in my SVA form.
Its a 98/99 carbed one and i have the engine number.
I had a CBR1000 motor before this and the engine number prefixes that related to the years were listed in the haynes for that bike.
It does not seem to be the case in the haynes i have for my R1.
Does anyone have a list of yamaha R1 engine date codes?

You don't need to prove age if it is newer than 1995. I just stuck 1998 on mine. No-one questioned it. I later found out that it was probably
a 1999 engine. Who really cares?

you can ring yamaha and they will tell you the year based on the number, but if you want proof on paper (which you probably wont need) it'll
cost you 50 quid in admin fees..

Gulp!
Think i will just go for 1998 then and maybe try to get confirmation from my Yamaha dealer.
Thanks

It gets very confusing if you try to be accurate. For example, my bike engine is a 2001 but the bike was registered in 2002.
