ANOTHER FAIL
  
well the 11 items are down to 1.  
the speedo was jumping, and needs adjusting. BUT i had to replace the seats and thus the trim to the trans tunnel to a rounded edge, and late last
night i bonded it down and so could not open it up to tinker     i the only noticed malfunctioning speedo on the way up to the test.
BUT it gets worse. on the way home the car stalled and refused to start       after 15 mins it fired up and got me another 3
miles before the alternator belt snapped
 this time i was left dead 30 miles from home.... Footman James to the rescue, faultless service    and the car made it home on the
back of a wagon   
off to halfords and B@Q. to start repairs.
going on holiday on friday so some time till it can be re tested. I just need a break from this Pile of cr~p     
no matter what i do it seems to have it in for me

It'll be right soon enough mate, and you say you need a break from it, and you are going on holiday, so you will come back with some fresh
enthusiasm...
Sure you'll be on the road in no time!

12 item left - that is not so bad.
my last item was speedo - I fitted halfrods cheapie bike speedo but could not be tested on the SVA rollers.
I had to find rolling road with one wide roller, got a print out from them signed etc: and the bit of paper was enough for the ticket.
Maybe you can do that locally too ? - ask the SVA centre - I did as I did not want to drive there again.

i know. only one item to fix and that can be done in 10 to 20 mins.
the carbs can be cranked up now its passed the emissions    loads more power    
i also need a high torque starter so more money   .
the alternator is the problem as i cannot get enough tension in the belt hence the breakage.
i'm off to the garage to get started on the repairs.

eh? is the belt too long that you cannot move the laternator out far enough or some other problem?
if belt is too long, see if there is any number on the blket itself, usaully they are marked with length in and type (V or groveed belt) ; the get
down to halfords and buy one that is next size down (or two - you can laways return if you have receuopt)
halford belts have length as part of part number.

For a high torque starter try one from an automatic .

it be worth it, days prior to my test and retest were a neet mare, trying to juggle work and car. Midnight oil came in!!
def worth effort tho.

Exactly what I had to do when I changed my x-flow crank pulley for a solid steel one - just got the next size smaller.

BTW: What a PITA regarding the SVA!

most problems are now solved. 
repositioned the sensor on the speedo pich up, just need a check on the actual dim and a test run to check the neadle is not sticking.
the belt, well i have put one on that is 13mm smaller and there is alot more tension.
so fingers crossed
