Perennial DVLA question

When I registered my kit April 2007 at Sheffield post SVA I did not need a MOT. I'm adamant that one is not required, born out by the links to totalkitcar etc. However a friend who will hopefully be ready to register after his SVA this Friday rang them & was told (Sheffield via Swansea). They can't inspect it before the SVA & it will have to have a MOT as they check for different things.

Now I KNOW this is wrong, but they hold all the cards, sometime ago somebody on this site had a letter from DVLA stating that one was not required, probably posted at least 12 months ago, but I cannot find any trace of it. Does anyone remember it & have the link.

Cheers

Alan...

I know the letter you mean, and it was from a good couple of years ago IIRC.

I've found this one from BenB: http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=76739

but it's not the scanned letter I remember.

Edit: Smart51 has a letter from dvla confirming 3 years I believe.

SVA'd and registered June 2006 and confirmation from local DVLA office, no MOT required until 2009. Taxed it twice since then and not been asked for MOT.

I went through this in January. The problem is with DVLA. As they tend not to do many of these registrations they refer back to the training manual which says an MOT is required however it is wrong! Be insistent that they check with Swansea, I eventually got a grovelling phone call explaining this however they would not put it in writing!I was told that, after my issue, they were going to get the manual corrected however it looks like this has not happened yet!

Best if luck!

I've got an e-mail from the DVLA which confirms that MOT is only needed 3 years after SVA even on a Q-plate. I tohught it was a letter and offered to scan it but then when I went to look for it found it was an e-mail!!!

"Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that your vehicle does not need an Mot until 3 years after the date of first registration. Unfortunately the vehicle system currently outputs a message requesting an Mot on the V11 Vehicle License Reminder. Due to system constraints and we are unable to amend this at present.

In order for you to license your vehicle you will need to apply by completing application form V10 and submitting it with your Registration Certificate V5C, insurance certificate and fee for tax to your nearest DVLA Local Office.

A list of DVLA Local Offices and addresses can be found on the website www.direct.gov.uk/motoring
