intigrated stop/tail light

Can a combined stop tail light be used for sva,I brought a combined hella led stop/tail light with an indicator outer ring, but someone has mentioned that for sva the tail and brake lights have to be seperate, can anyone throw some light on this as I want to cut holes in my rear arches for the lights.
Thanks
Ed.

The reason I posted the question was because of the following replies that I had from a previous thread on hella lights

Ed,

I was going to use this combo initially but if you need an SVA test it wont pass using the LED as tail and stop - they need to be separate lights. (I was told this first hand by a tester at Beverley).

Chris.

Mine passed with combined stop tail.

But the fog light must be at least 10cm from the brake light

I think that tester must have been drinking

Combined stop & tail lamps are perfectly ok - just keep the fog seperate.

Raz

I was told by SVA man that a combined stop and tail is only acceptable if a different set of LED's are used (within the light) for stop and tail. The s-v-c's ones i have use the same LED which come on brighter for stop. Same prinicpal as a filament bulb i guess - they are ok combined in one bulb as such, so long as separate filaments.

I wont be risking it using them combined.

It might be worth a visit/call to your local SVA for peace of mind - thats what i did.

Mine passed with the exact same lights. (Notts SVA centre). I was told that you cannot use the same BULB for the rear tail/brake because if the filament goes you've not got either, but there was something about LEDS that are different and so do not have the same issues. (ie - the LED ring can do both jobs and pass)

But as i say, passed no probs

(lights are an interesting one for me as i also have the small headlights upfront which everyone always say will fail but again i had no issues with them either, the beam pattern was spot on.)

I guess the only pattern emerging here is that the SVA centres have different agendas when it comes the lights.

Looks like Notts might be the place for the test! (even though i only live 2 mins from the SVA centre in Beverley).

what a load of bull! stop/tail light is perfectly acceptable for the sva. its used on loads of production cars, think your getting confused with fog and tail lights? if your sva tester has a problem with stop and tail lights being used together then he needs a refresher course in sva!!
