no mot and sorn - what happens?
Need to get car back on the road. Can I drive to mot even though it is sorn?

As far as i know - you can, aslong as you are insured and pre-booked into an MOT station.
Pretty sure you have to go to your closest MOT place too, so that you dont book a test at the other end of the country

What are the rules about the distance. Ive heard some say any distance and some say you have to go to the nearest one. I have read the rules on
direct.gov and it doesnt seem to mention anything about the distance you are allowed to travel just the fact that you need to drive to a pre booked
MOT. I drove my lada a fair distance to its MOT a while ago. How would this have held up in the eyes of the police?

because it does not state what is a the maximum distance you can travel means it's upto the officers judgement as to weather or not you are
taking the piss

Yes - 'fair and reasonable' would be the terms they would use. For example, picking one MOT station out all the ones in the nearest town
would be OK, even if it was on the far side of town. Picking one in the next town over would be pushing your luck, unless he was a specialist needed
for the work (and that's not likely to be accepted).

if it was the kit car and you pointed out the ground clearance you may be able to get away with a bit of leeway. normal tin top - i think once
you've driven past 4 or 5 your on dodgy ground. Staying in the local town is the best bet.
Eg. i drive a ford, so i get it MOT'd at the ford specialist across town .... seems fair enough. I drive a MNR so i get it MOT'd in
Harrogate when living in Leeds is taking the wee.

My sentiment exactly.
Though I doubt an prosecution would hold up in court without a max distance being specified

I have in the past driven over 150 miles to get a car to the MOT station. I only use the one in my village & have done for 25 years plus,
I've bought cars, phoned the garage, booked it in & driven back. I've always taken it straight there as well for the test, not done it
for a while & not sure I would be as happy these days with the number of ANPR cameras around.
