What to do???

Hi all, this is my first post on here... have come from MIGweb, GhostWalker got me onto this site.

My situation is this:

-New MK2 astra GTE 16v shell, no chassis number (bought with no docs or paperwork)
-Cavalier V6 rear suspension
-Calibra Turbo engine
-Calibra turbo front suspension
-Polybushes
-Exhaust yet to be made
-Lancia intercooler
-Home made aluminium dash (aircraft toggle switches + aircraft guages)
-No interior except 2 front seats.

Now then, how am i going to register this mix+match? all i've got to go on is an engine number....

Cheers, Scott

Is the shell legit?

If it's never been registered and is brand new you will need to go through the full registration process as you are building a new vehicle using parts from seperate cars. Contact your local VRO and get some info from them. You will most likely have an inspection and be allocated a vin number. They will also decide if your car is to receive a 'Q' plate which is likely, or if you are using mainly new parts a new registration.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If you can prove the origin of the shell (to the DVLA to say its not stolen), go the easy route. Buy an mot failure GTE, swap the parts (2 bodyshop fitters can do this in a weekend). MOT the car and then tell the DVLA you have shelled it, they may not inspect (I have done 5 shells this year without inspection).

Once you all legit, modify to your hearts content - and without a Q plate

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Does it need to be a GTE ?

If you are doing it that way you don't have to have GTE parts and a bog standard Astra is going to be a lot cheaper, it's only a 2 door shell after all.

The DVLA would get all childish if you shell and change the spec of the car at the same time, don't confuse them (this happens really easily - the minnions always block anything they don't understand or are slightly suspicious of)

this bit is the only problem IMHO. the DVLA or the VI etc wont stand for this, without paperwork they will not believe it isnt stolen, unless you can supply details of the supplier. Is there any reason why you dont just use an old banger astra to provide the chassis, then there would be absolutely no worries about the power wielders. one simple letter about the engine swap, and no more worries.

best of luck anyway!

Many thanks for the Gen guys...

Seems liek the easiest was would be to do a standard re-shell, then the mods.. double the work but less paperwork!

The shell is a 16V GTE only shell, they had extra strenghtening up front and the gearchange linkage path is different (inside the car as opposed to underneath the floor)

The VIN number on astras is stamped beside the drivers seat, not on a strut top, and no there isn't one. Its blank.

I'm in near Lutterwortn, but know where Barwell is, have a friend there. I'm doing the project at home.

More details about the project on my website www.astragte.tk

Many thanks, Scott
