SVA pass at Nottingham
After a 2 1/2 year build my brother and myself received an SVA pass on 16th july after receiving a fail the wednesday before.
For those interested in such things our fails were:
Lower seat belt anchorage required repositioning (no room between seat mount and ali for belt to swivel)
lower dash edge too sharp(despite having recommended foam rubber trim super glue on)
Front indicators not bright enough (tiny motorbike ones that looked better than they functioned)
No centre rear view mirror fitted (we said we could not see any thing out of it, but were informed we still had to have one and attach it down near
the gear stick out of harms way!)
small bit of trim required on front mudguards (that we thought was inside of the wheel)
No markings on brake fluid hoses from res. to master cyls
Fuel hose chaffing in 2 places
No markings on 1 piece of fuel hose.
anyway, passed on monday afternoon, DVLA office tuesday morning, just as well we went early because they wanted it inspecting and the guy had not gone
on his rounds yet so he just had a look at the car still in a van from the test. They phone us in the afternoon with a very nice Q plate number got
some plates on the road tuesday night sort of legally.
and now the teething problems begin.... intermitant brand new davies craig water pump caused overheating twice,, warped rear brake disk caused near
brake fire. Crap weather, soon soon well be out there... eyes watering..
Still to be painted, but you get the idea

That's rule 10.1.a NOTE 1 from the manual.
Unless there's NO rearward vision, i.e. you have a solid rear bulkhead like a van you need an interior mirror.
Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but that's the rule.

Ref rear view mirror;
Tester told me that because i had the required angles of vision just through the side mirrors, I could remove the rear view mirror from top of dash
BUT it still had to be in the cockpit area of car, so he "hinted to me" that its perfectly legal to put it down by the gearstick!
which i have done
hope that clears things a bit for anyone building at moment
cheers

Well done that man. Nice looking too.
