That old chestnut - Tax Renewal

Apparently I need an MOT to renew the tax on my GTS which was first registered in August last year on a Q plate.

Can someone confirm this isn't right before I give someone an earful over the phone tomorrow?

Plus, who do I phone? Anyone got a direct number?

Cheers,
David

I got the same response from the post office in town but since it's new it won't need an MOT for 3 years after registration. I went to a small village post office who knew this was the case and they sorted it out for me ^__^

if its a Q plate it will need an M.O.T after 1 year
unlike a new reg that will not until 3 years.

when i taxed mine first i did it for 6 months, then when i retaxed it i had to go to the dvla to retax, because the reminded asked for a M.O.T certificate

Also went through the sh1t that is the dvla.

they told me that all you have to do is go to the PO and they have a 'special' number to check.

I would also take VOSA's number as they get it right.

I was lucky my PO knew the score just wish I had started there.

Also the DVLA say they know about the problem and it is a database issue.

my car is also Q plate and over 1 year old VOSA agreed 3 years till MOT as stated above.

go into the post office and take the V5 showing the first registered date and you should be fine. If not kick off a bit and they will relent, at the end of the day you are trying to pay them money.

been a bit of a rush job really, bodged it all together in just 5 1/2 years.

I have just gone to renew my tax disk (18 months after registration) and the DVLA website is insisting I have an MOT too...

To b fair though I have driven past a couple of those VOSA vans and never been stopped for no MOT!

My first renewal notice said MOT. I got in touch with DVLA who asked me to send in docs with a cheque. They returned tax disc to me and V5 to swansea for a correction. Was Ok since then.

Road Tax

Taxed mine online once and at post office, reminder did say i needed an MOT cert but i took V5 which clearly states date of 1st registration.

although

Lets face it an MOT test is the cheapest form of vehicle testing you get for todays £ so i would suggest running the car through a test.
