changing engine number on V5 pre-SVA
Is it necessary to have the engine number the same as on the donor V5 to avoid getting a Q-plate?
How would you go about changing the engine number? I guess the new engine number/original chassis number has to be verified?

I changed the engine on my sierra donor before I took it apart, and notified DVLA of the change, so that I got issued with a V5 showing the new engine
number..... Then I took it apart and used it in the Rush..... if that seems a bit odd, U2U me here or on the Rushowners site for more details!

Just send the V5 off with the new engine number, it will wing its way back after a few days.
As far as DVLA are concerned your car is under SORN, this just means they will not be chasing you for tax but the vehicle is details are still
valid.

I did it after dismantling the donor. It helps clean up any confusion about the origin of the motor, acting as a receipt.
And yes, helps avoid a Q plate.

Not necessarily I'm afraid. I have the donor v5 (vauxhall xe) for the engine (complete with a modified no as you asked) But no receipts for box
or axle (sierra and capri) so I'm told I'll be getting a q plate by the dvla as not enough parts/reciepts from a single donor.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

^^^^ With no stamped on numbers or marks on the axle / box, are you sure they didn't come out of a single donor???

Being that the box and axle are from a ford AND rear wheel drive and the fact that the v5 is for a frontwheel drive cavalier then I think my case
would be shot down

Do you think they will know that, the lads in VOSA may know but DVLA haven't a clue.

Perhaps not but being honest will save time in the end IF someone is clued up on cars. Many of them are and IMHO it's not worth the bother of
looking like your trying to shaft the system. A Q plate will do for me. I'll just be glad to see it on the road finished.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

No, it isn't necessary. Provided you use enough parts from the donor vehicle, you can qualify for an age related plate quite easily without the
engine. We fitted a bike engine and still qualified for an age related plate.
