Retest Questions

Do I only get retested on what's written on the failure sheet? He did write only 1.5hrs test c/o and if I fail again on emmissions or summat does that mean that I have to resit the whole test again and possibly IVA standards this time?

If 1.5hrs c/o means he only completed 1.5hrs of the test what did he fail you on to cause him to stop the test. Most strange also which test centre

Well this is it. The immobiliser had a funny one and the car refused to start so we pushed it to the brake test and did the interior projections and he said that he would carry out as much as everything else that he could so that I would only have to have a retest and pay £38.
It got me wondering though that he wrote 1.5hrs testing c/o but he was saying that the test should last 4 hours.
I can't think what else he had to do though to take up 4 hrs worth of time and just wondered what relevance the 1.5 hrs thing had.

so you're shy on self centering, mirror's ?, noise, did he do the lights or did the immobiliser block the power, good luck anyway

I'm afraid it's an urban myth that you can only be retested on fail items.

That said, if it's the same tester, he would have to have a very good reason for failing an item on the second test if he had passed it first time around

Nah I got the self centring, mirrors, noise test all done. Just the weighing and exhaust test outstanding from what I can gather and thats because neither of the machines would work.

Isn't the 1.5 hours referencing how long he thinks it'll take to do the re-test???

Ah, yes that's what it'll be. Why did I not think of that. Started at 8 finished it at half 10. Cheers Ben.

When I failed (at Manchester) they wrote on the fail how long the re-test shold take. It's so the office staff know how much time to allow. I was retested by a different inspector but he did refer to the first guy as to what needed checking. I also asked if it was just the fail items and was told it was, provided I hadn't obviously altered anything else; quote "so don't swap that steering wheel yet and leave those reflectors on!".
Also if the repair has needed something else altering then they can test that as well. So if you had failed on self-centering and had then remade the wishbones they would recheck the front suspention.

ps. when you pass are you going to change your user name?

Funnily enough I have to change my steering wheel and reflectors to pass Did you have the small tester with the dark hair then? He came out when I was in the car whilst at the top of the ramps and walked underneath tutting and humming to the other tester. I was bouncing around trying to see what he was looking at
What's wrong with my user name by the way

That sound's like my tester. I watched them test a couple of other cars when I went back for retest and they tend to heckle each other so I wouldn't bother about what they did when yours was in.

Just thought you might become "Mr Chuffed and Happy"
