Zetec Without a CAT

Hi,

Is the Zetec a special case when it comes to SVA and the need to fit a CAT.

A recent thread said pre August 95 and no CAT required, but I was under the impression that if the engine was post 92 a CAT would be required.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am about to order my exhaust and would rather not have a CAT.

My engine has 94 cast into the block, which I am led to believe means it was built in 1994, do I need any more proof than this of its age?

Thanks in advance.

As above check on the burton power website. You will need your engine number to cross reference on the chart to get year of manufacture for the engine. This may be enough to satisfy the SVA tester as some people have used the same sort of info from haynes manuals, failing that I beleive you can get ford to confirm engine date and get them to send you a letter as proof.
Pretty sure pre august 95 engines do not need a CAT.

Was your engine actually pre 92?

It was 1992 that Cats started to be mandatory on all new *production* cars but there were exceptions for a while.

For SVA purposes, August 1995 is the key date. So long as your engine was *manufactured* before this date, then you don't need a Cat.

thanks Steve,

I thought this was the case until recently came to question it when one of the Kitcar mags had an SVA guide that referred to 1992 as the cut off date.

Can't remember which one of the top of my head.

Belt & Braces.. send your engine number off to Ford Technical Services, they will reply with a letter stating the month and year of manufacture.

Any engine pre August 95 does not need a CAT at SVA.

not wanting to hijack, but if you accept the engine was made after 1995 (mine's a vauxhall ecotec engine) and fit a cat, do you still need to prove the engine age?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

CAT Query

My engine is a C20XE and was built as a cat engine with a cat on it, Engine number check came up as being fitted to a 1991 model calibra 3 door coupe 16v 2.0ipetrol with a catalytic converter, the actual engine was built sept 1990, i went for SVA dec 19 2008 (NO CAT REQUIRED AND NO RESTRICTER IN FUEL FILLER REQUIRED EITHER) passed ok.

PERSEVERANCE is the word of the week. Stick with it the results are SWEET.

Yes, if you don't prove engine age the SVA man will apply current CAT emissions, ie: 2009 standard, tight as hell.

Different standards through the years so better to prove age to get the correct emission year.
