Heard a couple of 'snippits' on radio about Gov looking into changing law so that all registered cars must be insured wheather on ,or off
road, been trying to get more info without luck.
As someone with 12 vehicles I wouldn't be too happy with that one, any input from club to be considered? any online petitions?

Its been rumbling round for a while that one.
Classic gvernment think tank approach.
Penilise the honest people who insure cars before taking them on the road, to still NOT catch the perpetual insurance dodgers who wont care the law
has changed. Its a way of getting normal folk to jump through hoops so the bad ones stand out a bit more.
Still it will get some money into those financial instituations so thats a good thing....

it is pointed out that a SORN car is exempt from the crushing nazi,s.
of course those that dont register the car in their own name will escape unless they are caught with ANPR and actually stopped, most of these will be
throw away items anyway and the fines wont be paid as said owners will know how to get round it.

I got fined for not SORNing my old bike
Despite them sending the reminder for someone else’s car and me writing back to them saying it was not my car and could I get the correct reminder, by
the time they replied I was told I had to pay £80 for not SORNing it.
Road tax for a 125cc bike is £15 a year! yet I get an £80 fine for their mistake, like you say the DVLA are the new Nazi party.

Who wants to blow up the DVLA building? (at night when its empty of course ) would be such fun to see the mess of paperwork

You realise you don't need the reminder form to pay your road tax, right?

Oh I did forget I'll admit that, got 8 vehicles just now so sometimes one gets missed. It’s just the size of the fine I got compared to the £15
tax and that I was trying to help them out by notifying them I wasn't the owner for the reminder. Afterwards I went to the post office and got a
heap of SORN forms for all the off-road vehicles, filled them out and sent them in regardless of whether they were due or not so then everything
should be on the same day.
I can't decide if blowing up the DVLA office would be as much fun as just burning it down, at least a fire would have more chance of destroying
their computers
Always fancied building a cruse missile though, it would be an interesting project.

I think you should get as many BECs as possible and pack them full of explosives and ram the DVLA building. Obviously BECs have more room in their
engine bays so more explosives could be packed in.

They’d be a bit noisy though! You’d hear that lot coming from the other side of the country and lose the element of surprise

Did you write to the DVLA after this happened?
I never got a reminder then got fined. I sent the fine off but wrote explaining the situation and how unhappy i was (especially as the vehicle was
SORN'd the previous year and they sent the reminder).
They wrote back, apologised and didn't cash the fine. The computer is automated, the people are ok if they can help in my experience.

Like everything the gov has done with regard to vehicle taxation & ownership in the last few years it is half thought through here are some
examples of the lack of joined up thinking.
Yes a lot of uninsured drivers have accidents --- why ? because the car has either stolen by "joyriders" or the driver is already
disqualified from driving,
About 18 moths back some bean counter in the DVLA came up with the statistic that at any time 40% of motorcylives aren't taxed --- I was
actually surpised it wasn't more like 55% after all how many week end bikers don't use and therefore tax their bikes over the winter ?
I could go on about recent road tax changes and subsequent re-thinks, thankfully Freelander 1.8 owners will no longer be faced with a 470 pounds per
years road tax bill but we are left with a situation where the really pointless over sized anti-social vehicles like the Range Rover
"Sport" and BMW X5 aren't being hit so much as their owners will even notice..

Remember what happened when switching from old fashioned driving licences to the new ones. Lots of bikers had the motorcycle category missed off the
new licence. DVLA said the old licence was the only proof of entitlement held and they had shredded it so you all have to take your tests again.
Blow up DVLA? The whole country would have to take the driving test again.
