What do "new" registered BEC's get tax wise?
I'm aiming for a new 09 reg, using a proven recon'd 1993 engine as my one permissable used component.
This means the old style emissions checks, and I've checked with a kit car savvy MOT centre, this level of check will continue into
MOT's
How therefore does the vehicle get tax banded?

low capacity engine under 1500cc, so about 115 quid a year.
Engine size (cc)
12 months rate
6 months rate
Not over 1549
£120.00
£66.00
Over 1549
£185.00
£101.75
They are taxed at the pre CO2 rating due to no figures for kits

That's good news, so it doesn't have to conform to the new co2 based banding...

James, it will be rated on it's emissions if the engine is newer than 2001 and is on a new reg number.
The only exception is if it is on a Q.

All of the stuff I have read related to age related plates, maybe the amateur build rules apply and they won't put it on the Mac?
It's a bit confusing as I was told this by the tester when I enquired about it while the F1-2 was tested, but that was 3 years ago. He said new
Reg meant new emissions and tax.
I hope that he/I am wrong as tax can be very different for post 2001 cars.
I sold my previa 94 2.4 ltr , tax £185 to a Peugeot 206 2.0 ltr but 2001 and the tax is £210!

Good news for both me and James!
I am glad I am wrong, I'm going for a new reg and so cheaper tax will be a bonus!

Taxed on engine capacity as there's no data on co2/km figures.
