DVLA chassis number!!!!

ARGH..... how long does it take dvla to give you a chassis number. I asked a couple of weeks ago and still nothing. Im trying to get it sorted so I can apply for a SVA and not have to go through IVA but at the moment its not looking promising.....

did you send the letter to your local office? What i did was propose a chassis number in a letter and ask them to confirm in writing that it was acceptable.

To speed things up I enclosed a stamped addressed envelope etc and got a reply in two days.

Good luck

That number is invalid as it is longer than 17 digits!
Or was that 21? or 9?
Oh are you allowed O or 0

I wrote to my local office. (New Years Day) Ten days later and no response i called them, got Swansea, who took all my details etc and local office rang within two hours.

Local office advised they had not got the letter, but i was to fill out V627/1 and return that.

About 7 days later i rang Swansea again, to get a call back. Local office rang to advise they was dealing with my request, and i would get a call, later that week.

Following Monday got a call from inspector who wished to see car that day, which he did, but he was under the impression he was seeing a complete ready for road car, but took at details and filled out his version of V627/1.

On Monday this week got a call from local office to ask how long until I was ready for the road so they could register it. When i said a rough time they said oh thats ok will send you a chassis number.

Its arrived but its hand written so can not tell if i have O's or zero's. Rang the girl dealing with it and she is not in until Monday.

So all in all i have waited just over 3 months, but the local office is realy happy, knowledgable and approachable.
