What should Emissions be??

Can anyone confirm a for a new plate a 2.0 Zetec running....

Fast Idle
Co 0.006 and 6PPM Hc

and

Idle
Co 0.027 and 19PPM Hc

Will this pass? Think im inside the limits enough??

I was confident they are, but the guy who picked my car up from engine tuners tonight seemed to think they where high.

For an engine after 1995 :

Iddle : CO under 0.5 %

Fast iddle ( 2500 -3000 RPM)
CO under 0.3%
HC under 200 ppm
Lambda : from 0.97 to 1.03

Based on what? Just a guess?

The readings you've given are well within the limits but Lambda reading is needed as well before we can say.

Ive got a 2 print outs which the guy looked and said it was high. but mybees he is wrong.

I didnt get a lambda reading as i havent got one fitted, the engine tuner said the megasquirt wouldnt run with it and he could set it up better with out it.

So i spent £176 on a nice lamda and guage for nothing- i asked him 3 times to get it working with it, but he didnt.

Hello,

i don't know about Megasquirt, but to pass SVA the tuner needs to check the Lambda value.

You need to have both parameters right to pass SVA.

The Lambda reading you need has nothing to do with whether or not a Lambda sensor is fitted although you will probably need one to get within the required limits. The reading is taken from the exhaust gases by the emission tester and will be printed out on the results sheet.

For the test the lambda at fast idle must be between 0.97 and 1.03. So yes it will fail. 1.07 is too weak or there's an air leak on the exhaust.

Did your tuner know that it was to meet these regs that you were having it set? They're the same as MOT requirements so he should be familiar with them.

Even a very small leak in the exhaust system will affect the lambda reading. As said it looks as if the engine is running too weak though.
