Speedometer Test
Hi All
We have rebooked the IVA for 26th Aug as weren’t going to be ready
This came back in the email and my question is
Does the IVA still check your speedo ?
My issue is Ford Type E needs 90deg adaptor no longer available
I’m looking at Hall effect and electronic speedo otherwise but bit stuck to be fair
Thanks

PLEASE NOTE : From 16th June 2025 IVA 1C applications for M1 vehicles can now be completed through My Vehicle Testing (MyVT). PDF forms are no longer
required for these vehicles.
May 2025 versions of the IVA 1P and IVA 1LG PDF application forms are live on the Gov.UK website. These forms became MANDATORY for customers to use
from 27th May 2025. Any prior versions submitted from this date onwards will be rejected.
Due to the cessation of speedometer speed roller testing at our test sites, if you have fitted a speedometer to meet the required standards, you may
need to provide evidence of its accuracy to prove compliance.
measure twice, cut once, scrap it, start again.

I have used this https://www.burtonpower.com/ford-electronic-speedo-sensor-revfss.html
in my Stylus along with an ETB electronic speedo. It fits directly onto the speedo drive in the gearbox and doesn't need an adapter.

I've done 3 IVA's and on each the speedo was checked on a rolling road. I am not aware of this being cancelled and will soon be goingfor
another IVA (probably after you though)

If they are no longer using the rolling road (I'd not heard that, but somewhat out of touch nowadays) then you would need to be able to prove the
speedo was set up correctly, say by saying it has unaltered gearing from the original & you're running the same size tyre or similar
With my first Furore, the speedo drive wheel & sensor for the electronic speedo was only on one driveshaft, if you run that up on a rolling road
every possibility that the diff would favour one side or the other so wouldn't be accurate, but if you have calcs to show that for the tyre size
you have & how many pulses it needs to read 1mph, 10mph etc then they have to accept that
They are still gonna drive it round the yard for steering self centring etc & if the speedo doesn't read or reads something obviously way
incorrect you'd obviously fail
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

it appears a new version of the test manual has just been released
"IVA M1 Inspection Manual (Version: 17) Date: 14/07/2025"

That looks a LOT more straightforward, they've dropped the roller test completely

and only you have to show documentation if the visual checks indicate it is 'obviously functioning incorrectly'
ie it just has to look about right.
"Note 6: Where it is determined that a speedometer is obviously
functioning incorrectly, additional evidence relative to the type of
speedometer fitted should be sought, in the form of:
• A receipt for the conversion from km/h to mph, or
• A receipt from a component supplier (i.e., from a speedometer
conversion or an interface/chip installation), or
• Manufacturer’s instructions (e.g., installation and calibration), or
• A rolling road printout."
