Reverse Light
Hi Chaps
Question regarding a reverse light?
On a normal MOT the tester will not fail a car if the reverse light is inoperative, so.... does not mean it does not need to be there for an SVA? I
presume it does since all the cars i have seen going for an SVA have them fitted.
Cheers
Ash

But the MOT tester should fail if it is fitted but not working.

i am an m o t tester and i can say that a reverse light is not even tested in an m o t , so even if it has one and it dosnt work it is not a
failure.
Good luck

Interesting, every other time this has been asked this has been taken as the correct answer.
I've certainly been failed on it many moons ago (wasn't the only thing) and looking at the web there is a reference to it seemingly being
to be down to tester discretion, presumably under one of the 'unsafe' catch-alls.

Nothing is down to tester discretion , there is the same rule book book for all testers with the same failure items , + you try finding a failure for
a reverse light on the m,o,t computer it simply is not part of an m.o.t as is front fog lamps not a testable item.

Our reverse light doesn't work, but that's cos it hasn't got one. The reason it hasn't got one is because we have no reverse
gear. Passed SVA...

You could fail a reversing light I would think under only two conditions.
1. It being permanently lit or illuminates when primary lights are on, thus showing a white light to the rear. MOT fail
2. The lights housing being so damaged that it proved to be dangerous to anyone walking past the vehicle during their normal business.
Other than that it is non testable.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

They can be too bright as well, there's a limit on the bulb size
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
