Good old DVLA
Having gone to the Northmpton DVLA office last Tuesday to finalise my freshly SVAed car registration I was told I would receive it after 48 hours.
Well I got the recorded delivery letter today at 1:15. It contained the receipts and other bits and pieces they took in the past plus the tax disc
for the car. What it didn't contain was the document that would enable me to get the registration plates! I didn't expect the V5 yet but
this is very frustrating. My local car parts shop wouldn't help, they wanted a V5 or the DVLA document.
It just goes to show what a load of incompetent civil servents they have working at the DVLA. ( I'm being very polite here). I think I have a
solution to the problem but i could have been stuck with a registered and taxed car, but being unable to drive it.

Had to wait a week and then go to post office and pay because they didn't frank the envelope or put a stamp on . Got the tax disc just before I
went on holiday for 2 weeks . Best part of a month lost!!

Good old Ebay to the rescue, couple of outfits on there do plates, cheap as chips, and dont ask for a V5. HTH Ray

Yup- go on t'net and get some show plates made up. Most places do next day delivery...
Though personally if I was keen to get out on the roads I'd get some acrilic sheet, cut it to size, get a A4 sheet of black card, same of white
and same of yellow and make my own temporary plates....

Only fair if I stick up for DVLA I think.
They treated me very well and were extremely efficient.
My "case officer" at Wimbledon, Harsha, did everything very quickly and in the manner I was expecting so no nasty surprises.
The inspector who came to my house wasn't a joy and clearly took some sort of pleasure in telling me I'd get a 'Q'. But he was
wrong and I got age related from Harsha as expected.
Maybe it helped I kissed arse a lot!
