V5 and Road Tax

Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me with some information:-
I have just bought a doner car that has a current MOT cert (until nov 07) but no road tax.
Obviously I am going to pull off all the bits I need and then I will ask/pay the scrap man to take it away.
(I realise I will need the V5 and the vehicle chassis plate for the SVA test)
Whilst I am pulling the doner car to bits it will sit on my drive way during this time what happens about the road tax, I assume I can tell the DVLA that the car is off the road and therefore tax will not be required? Is this correct?
Also what happens about the V5 when the scrap man take the car, do I register the car as scrapped or do I do nothing until I go for an SVA test?
Finally approximately how much do scrap yards charge for picking up a vehicle and will it be a problem that it has no wheels etc?
Many thanks,
David

I'm not entirely sure, but I'd have thought you'd have to SORN the vehicle because, technically, your se7en will become the same vehicle in terms of paperwork, so will need continuity of tax etc.

As above, register in your name, then get it sorned and keep it sorned and also print out your sorned email if you do it over the net, don't tell them it's been scrapped.

You will have to give up the V5 for the donor vehicle when you scrap it.

You will also need a new VIN/chassis number for the new build and eventually you will get a new V5C when its registered after SVA

As said already, register in your name, declare Sorn and cash the tax in.

Make sure you get the SORN acknowledgement in post or you will get fined (if declaring on line etc keep copies of correspondence just in case).

Dont declare scrap, DVLA will take V5 off you and do this at registaration time. Again keep copies of paperwork as i got a Sorn reminder for the surrendered V5 as DVLA Swansea didnt take it off their system.

Basically for SORN you get an acknowledgment after declaring it and 12 months later you get reminder. I didnt realise there was a problem with mine until i didnt get the reminder. Odds on that DVLA will cock it up somewhere along the line! so cover yourself.
