insurance PITA
One year in, SVA'd on a Q, needed MOT and insurance for tax, OK without cat, all as expected. However the insurers (adrian flux) have asked for
all the same old sh1te I had to give the 1st time round - agreed value form, 6 colour photos of the car, extra questions form (and money of
course).
Is this usual?

I don't think you need an MOT for 3 years after sva, even on a Q?
Anyway, no such problems with Footman James for my car.

They only did the agreed value and photos thing once for mine.

I guess you took your RFL reminder to the post office for tax.
Bigga mistaka to maker. Take to DVLA office and argue. Just did mine 10 days ago, pointed out the MOT bit on form, said it was nonsense as it was
registered 3/1/06 (2 years ago).
She said "Yeah, they come up like that as it's a Q. 6 or 12 months sir?"
12. Think I'm coming here more than I have to?

I've got a Q and went to the PO for tax... the form asked for MOT, but I pointed out that the car is less than 3 years old and they crossed out
the MOT requirement and sold me the tax disc.

I wrote a rather abrupt e-mail to DVLA Swansea when they demanded an MOT after 1 year on my Q. They replied saying "oh yes, fair enough"
and I just sent a copy of that letter, the application form for another 12 months duty and a cheque (and insurance forms etc) via recorded to my local
DVLA office. Tax came back four days later  No waiting around!!!

There is a form on the DVLA site that should help you tax at the PO if you think they might get upset:

If you were Daft and MOT'd your car before the SVA then you need to present the MOT cert everyyear.
If you went straight to SVA without MOT then you are exempt for 3 Years. This is beacuse after 3 years DVLA will enter you car into the MOT system.
If you present the car anytime before the 3 years then YOU enter it into the MOT system and you stuck with MOT;s every year.

This is not always true. I bought my less than one year old car without knowing this common misconception and the guy MOT'd it for me as part of
the deal. Come the two year anniversary some 13 months later and it was taxed online without hassles and with no MOT in force. Of course, it had to be
MOT'd last year as it was three years old.
Anyway, to anyone who has "accidently" MOT'd their car after SVA then I suggest using the online system at tax renewal time and see
what happens. I hope you'll find the same as I did.

When did it change to a road tax debate? If you didn't do the photos and agreed value they will still insure you but will need to assess the car
if you have a claim. Phone them and ask, it's not a problem. Don't make a drama out of a crisis.

Hmm - some same some not - I had to do the agreed value thing initially because I'd built it for £250 (!) & reckoned it was worth £5k.
It's just a bit of a pain that's all - I posted then the exact same photos they got a year ago - how daft is that? everything else is nice
& easy on-line.
I got an MOT without thinking, I should have tried it on. Actually I'm not unhappy about having an independent check that all me bits are still
stuck together! And yes I rang them & they said it would be tha same every year.........
