Tax free status ?

I`ve been wondering.......if I build a car from a single doner , and that car was pre 73 - would I get an age related plate , and enjoy tax free status on the `new` kit-car ?
Cuz I`m wondering - what is there to stop me from building an Epona with Morris Minor running gear and that lovely little engine () , then changing it all for Mx 5 stuff and a V6 after SVA ?
Could I get away with it ?

Probably not

You'd also have to weigh up the overall cost of a build + rebuild against potential savings over the time you plan to keep the car too.

Sadly not....

Even though the major components are 'old' and eligible for an age related plate, the date of first registration would be the year you passed SVA..............

I can confirm that Fozzie is right. My donor is a 1970 Cortina and I can't get it tax free! I know, I've tried (very hard!)....Oli.

My car was built with a 1968 donor but couldnt get tax free, I also have a tax exempt 1970 MGB I would like to use but cant work out a way of doing so without keeping the rusty body shell, it would be fun to make a space frame and get all fibreglass bodywork then fit a V8 but even then it would need SVA as the chassis would be new.
