GRRRRRR

How can it be so difficult!!

I've got the SVA sorted and had a car transporter all lined up. Problem is the hire company says I need to arrange fully comp insurance.

This should be a walk in the park but can you beleive that Adrian Flux weon't insure me, my car insurance won't and several companies that specialise in short term policies won't either.

So I thought i'd hire a car with a tow hitch as I don't own one, no guess what none of the hire car companies hire cars with tow hitches as you require different insurance.

So unless my company lets me hire this transporter on the company insurance i'm up sh1t creek without a paddle.

Really didn't think I'd have problems with this part of the process I must admit.

Any ideas

stupid question, by why can't you drive it to SVA? after all you built it for that purpose.

if you don't have confidence in your build, you should never have started it - but take it easy at first.

You'll have fun, unless the engine explodes and save loads a money too.

I'd happily drive it but isn't it the case that the examiner can stop you driving it home?

In that case i'd be 50 miles from home with no way of getting it back?

The worry of that happening for some reason i' can't forsee isn't worth it it would ruin the experience for me.

Most people do drive there but im not sure if they can stop you driving home or not.

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

i think the tester will only stop you driving home if they issue a prohibition notice. EG if the car has no brakes, the chassis is crap or they deem the car to be dangerous. If everything works but there are just relatively minor things to fix then you can drive home. I was able to drive back after failing in things like sharp edges and that they didnt like my handbrake arrangement.

Mt test was approx 45 miles each way. Only reason i couldnt drive home after passing 2nd time was due to a core plug failure (lost cooling system).

och, where is your sense of adventure? If you are gonna breakdwon, get it over and done with right at the beginning.

Would the AA recover you?
Or some other recovery company?

Yup either hire a van or just drive it there.

Yes!

They don't stop you driving home just cos you've failed! Otherwise all of us who didn't pass 1st time would be stuck.

You only get a prohibition notice if it's real bad.

Merlin on here's the only person I know of who's had a prohibition! And his car had no brakes!
Not that it needed them... what with weighing 950kgs and only having a 1.6Pinto!

Jabba, I believe you are not too far from me. I have decent 2 wheel trailer that take a "7" quite nicely (although the ramps are a little short for comfort but you can either unhitch, put the rear props down and jack the front up on the jockey wheel or do as I do and leave it hitched and jack the rear of the tow car up with the jockey wheel). It's in storage at my in-laws if you want to hire it (one Stella a day should suffice).

I'd take up the kind offer of a trailer.
Mine failed because the front pads weren't bedded in sufficiently (served me right for using 2nd hand discs and not cleaning them up properly). The tester said he wouldn't have allowed me to drive home.
You might be OK with AA but I don't know if they'll take an unregistered car.
Cheers, Pewe

If at all possible I would drive to/from the SVA. It hekps to bed in brakes etc.

If you want cheap insurance then try these people

Hagerty Insurance

they had no problem with insuring me on a chassis number.
