Hi its me again

It appears my initial diagnosis of a wobbly alloy wheel was infact...hands up...totally incorrect oops

No what I have is a bent cortina hub! crikey that’s quite thick metal too, must have taken quite a beating but it is from a scrap car

Anyway, I need a new hub and was in the back of my mind considering an fancy alloy one. Anybody suggest a reasonable (for a penny pinching Scot) supplier?

How about these folk £65, inc bearings etc, so probably £50 over and above new bearings and cleaning up the steel ones.....

I suppose that’s not too bad considering the bearings and studs come with it. Are these suitable for normal road use and our crappy roads? or am I going to be living in fear of every pothole?

Would suggest so, worth a phone call, those centre caps look cool too, would you see them with your alloys?

They were a good price IIRC and plenty of people bought them from the first batch he had done.

Rally Design hubs good, similar price, but don't have the funky hubcaps

The wheels I have their own center caps which look quite nice so I'm not to bother about the hub ones

no, I'll be replacing both sides as the standard ones are quite heavy. Just badly worded my me...

that's good point...I could drill lightening holes in the good old heavy steel one, tape them up with duck tape to keep the grease in as save me a ton of cash

I always put my duck tape to good use - as long as youre prepared to wait a while you can have my second hand stuff for almost nothing (*)

I'm considering getting my alloy hubs from Compbrake, anyone tried them? They can supply them anodised in fancy colours, too!

Just ordered a pair of hubs from Rally design and a new wheel bearing kit...all excited now

May have to sell one of the dogs to pay for it though

I was a bit worried about the alloy hubs, but virtually every Mk1 and Mk2 Escort used in rallying have them fitted, and they obviously have a far harder life than a road car. They save a useful amount of (unsprung) weight as well.

Wouldn't go near Compbrake, service is that bad that i couldn't even be arsed to keep chasing them, poor quality items and service is worst i have ever come across.

I had a master cylinder from them and it was cr*p. They had the nerve to send some of their stickers out with it and even the quality of the stickers was shocking!

Hi

The trouble with both Compbrake and Hispec is that your taking a gamble as to whether the product will actualy fit. And then theres the customer service or rather lack off. At least with RD you get a product that will fit and if it dose not you have very good customer service to correct the problem.
