Some Electric Reverse Help required.
Doctor Derek Doctors - 16/1/11 at 04:06 PM
Hello all,
I'm building a car with a Freelander Diff and a ZX10R engine, its a 1 Off chassis so I don't have an original manufaturer to go and get an
Electric Reverse kit from.
Firstly can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of the bolt on gear that will fit a Freelander Diff' flange.
Secondly can anyone then give me a list of suitable starter motors for the above ring gear so I can head to the scrapyard and find one.
Cheers

Some sort of link might help, or directions to where it is or what its called.
I have Googled this subject senseless and plenty of Locost Builders threads have been thrown up but knowhere can I find a defintive answer to the two
questions I asked above.
All I need is something like:
To fit a Freelander diff you need to buy X ring gear from company Y
and to mate to this you need a starter motor from car Z

I'm not sure that the ring gears are available off-the-shelf unless bought as part of a kit. People seem to have had them cut to suit whatever
starter they've used, which is usually a VW item IIRC.

That thread has absolutely no information relevant to the questions I asked, I found it earlier and its a discussion about the electrical operating
system, not the mechanical workings I.E the gear and the motor.
As for companies not selling the parts seperately and wanting to sell a complete system, can somebody tell me a company that sell an Electric reverse
system for a car that uses a Freelander diff? At least then I could be a system that fits onto my diff, all the ones i have found so far are for
Sierra diffs.

Brilliant, cheers mate.
I now know what starter to buy and have an order form for the gear. A trip to the scrappy is in order next weekend.
I assume that the gear comes with a blank centre and you just drill your own holes to suit the diff flange?
