Evening all
stripped the breaks off my sierra tonight now do i buy a rebuild kit for them or exchange the for new ones?

Strip them appart and look for pitting/rust on the bore and piston (we are talking fronts arent we?) if all ok, get a kit from biggred if knackered then use em as exchange units.

I had this dilemma a couple of weeks ago and decided to strip and refurb the calipers. Big mistake. It isn't worth the effort, just order some professionally refurbish units. I eventually got some from Brake International. They arrived the next day and I sent my old calipers to them to get the surcharge refunded. Done and dusted within a week. The only part of the original caliper they reuse it the cast body, the rest is brand new. My brakes were for an Audi RS4 and only cost £102 each

I must have been lucky as my sierra ones were a piece of cake, must stress though the walls of the bore and piston must be in very good condition or the new seals will get damaged and the results don't need thinking about.

If in any doubt about your confidence in tackling such a safety critical part get them exchanged. The job isnt difficult, I used a foot pump to push the old pistons out and carefully examined mine and I was happy they were ok (must have had regular brake fluid changes, as the fluid cant have had any moisture to create rust)
