im wanting to make rear wishbones the first thing in my new project which is going to be a sierra based build im starting at the back iwith small bits
i can fabricate myself till i get space for me to build the chassis iv already made up the jigs needed
so the help i need is where can i obtain steel to suit the bush tubes for the rear wishbones does anyone have an idea of the size of tube of steel i
need to order or does it have to be turned down in a lathe
hope this makes sense thanks with the help
What bushes are you using? If you copy the Haynes Roadster book, you won't go far wrong. I don't have the sizes to hand but I bought mine as stock tube.
A good start would be the Chris Gibbs Haynes Roadster book
All the dims and tech specs you need.
thanks for the quick reply iv got the book it is just it lists the size as 33.7mm diameter with 2.6 wall but i cant seem to find anything in the size thats my problem or is it an inch size it is in rather than metric
I have just looked at my invoices from my local steel stock holders & the size is listed as 33.7 od X 2.5 mm CHS tube C/F
As far as I know, is a standard size tube, we commonly used this on the ships.
I am building to the Haynes spec.
If you get really stuck ( I know some stockholders do not hold this size ) I have a fair few of these already machined to 35mm in length.
thanks very much i will keep this in mind i will try on monday and if i cant get anywhere i will give you a shout chears its the id and od thing can never rememer sizes
Just drop me a U2 if I can help.
Bought a hole bunch of long off-cuts of the stuff a few months back & made a rather large batch of em
