my Raw striker diff ratio???

Hi all

as some are aware just purchased a raw striker, been in the garage today just checking things over and where to start on the mods etc,

its running a 1800 k series engine with a caterham 6 speed box, so i i checked out the diff for ratio etc,

it is running a sierra 7" 3:62 lsd diff,

is this ratio ok as seems low for a car engine and im running 15" wheels , not been around cec for a while so not sure as all my projects are bec normally, i thought a 3:92 may be appropriate but unsure really?

any advice welcome here i may even try to get it modded to take 13" wheels,

Have a look at the bottom of this page. Seems to me you have exactly the right diff ratio considering the Striker is probably lighter than the Caterham.

i would have thought the 6 speed box will make up for the ratio. but not too sure!

Ah that's the issue can't drive at mo due to hand operation, bit just asking if any opinions on it,

Will hope to get it on the road in feb time,

The Caterham box has a ratio of 1:1 in 6th. A Type 9 has a ratio of 0.82:1 in 5th. The Caterham box is designed to give close ratios, it doesn't provide an overdrive top for economy/relaxed cruising.

if it was mine I'd want the 3.92 - it will give it better acceleration which is what I'd want

My Mk1 Escort ran a direct top and a 3.54 final drive, a higher gear would have been nice, but it was great fun on the A roads, murder on the M-ways.

The difference between a 3.62 and a 3.89 will be far far less noticeable in a cec than in a bec so personally i would try it out yourself first when your hands better. You may be pleasantly surprised .
