r888 noise

just put some r888s on the dads tintop, hes complaining of unbearable road noise though, Ive not heard it but was just wandering if these tyres are particularly noisy?
theres no problem with bearings or anything, only possible problem i can think is wheel balance, though it should have been done when they were fitted and dont think theres the associated vibrations

Going in the right direction I presume. I seem to recall they are ditrectional tyres.

I See a lot of Elises in my garage with them on.
When test driving them, you're not sure if they have a wheel bearing gone.
But get them on the track, the noise is worth it!!

okay just checked to be 100%sure... theyre going in the right direction, and annoyingly the red dots arent there. going to take it out tonight and experience it for myself.

im thinking that itll be tyre noise coupled with really hard new pu bushes that just lets the noise resound though the whole car unabated.

r888's are bloody noisy simple as that. they were never designed to be a quiet comfortable road car tyre, they were designed to get the maximum amount of grip out of a tyre whilst staying road legal.

we usually use a048s, so were comparing like for like...ill post up when ive been out tonight...

I ran both 888s and AO48s on my Elise at various times and I could not say I noticed difference in road noise. The difference in ride comfort on the other hand is quite noticeable, the 888s being much softer in the sidewall. Downside of this is that they are a bit squidgey compared to the AO48s on track. You can compensate to a degree with tyre presures but for a track biased car I much prefered the AO48s. For a road car with occassional track use I would go with an AD08 from Yoko not 888s as the wet weather performance on the road is not the best. IMHO of course.
