Where to get parts for sierra rear brake calipers
jon200 - 29/7/12 at 08:52 PM

I am stripping some down to refurb them, I bought them second hand and they are a little rusty! They are Plain disc Cosworth jobbies for my English axle disc conversion

I will need a seal kit which i will get from Brakes international, Unless anyone knows cheaper?

I also need a pair of sliders, Mine have rusted so the bood no longer stays put when the caliper is slid from side to side. Anyone have any i can buy or know where thay could be bought?

Thirdly, Is there anything that needs to be done when refurbing them? Anything to look out for?

And finally where can i get the parts plated in the golden colour, Like Zinc Plating but not Zinc coloured?

Cheers

Jon

bigg red / big redd? do the sliders/seal kits/pistons if needed.

to completely strip the calipers you need a special tool, if the handbrake mechanism is ok then you can just put new seals in, just wind the pistons back in with an angle grinder disc key.

Just send them off to BiggRed (http://www.biggred.co.uk/). It'll probably end up cheaper than buying the bits and you'll be confident that they will work when you need them. I'm all for doing things myself wherever possible, but I can't help but think it's false economy to do a full calliper refurb yourself these days.

They also do the gold coloured plating.

I got a caliper from my local motor factors for £52 exchange. At that price out wasn't worth bothering to rebuild them.
